Political situation


Because Kenya's democracy is an exemple for other African nations, western countries and democracies support it. Due to globalization this support is on the increase. With the outcome of the last elections the country's democracy has stabilized. The government's first priority is to reduce unemployment. During  2013 & 2014 terrorist attacks took place in Lamu. The Kenya goverment has since then tightened security in the area leading to a stabilisation of the area.

Important things to note

  • At the beach you will occasionally meet so-called beachboys. These are generally harmless but can get very obstrusive and annoying. During you enjoyable strolls on the beach maintain your cool be polite and friendly.
  • When dawn breaks please use Tuks Tuks or taxis to commute from one place to the other
  • Lamu is approx. 200Km from Diani Beach. As mentioned earlier the area of Lamu is not safe for tourists and should be avoided by all means according to the ministry of foreign affairs
  • If you would like to travel in Kenya you should consult the recommendations of your foreign ministry
